Edmonton

Chaps & the Big D

How far are the Edmonton Oilers from reaching the next level? With nine years of Connor McDavid's tenure and no cup finals, special guest Avry Lewis (Avry's Sports Show), a sports podcast writer and host, joins us to discuss everything and anything!

This week's episode is brought to you by Hart Wholesale Liquor Store!
 Located at 6055 Monterey Rd,
 Prince George, BC
 https://m.facebook.com/HartLiquor/

We start by talking Oilers and their struggles to Ge McDavid a title, we also discuss the promising potential of San Antonio Spurs' rookie Victor Wembanyama and examine his strengths, size, and comparisons to Joker. Plus, we consider if Victor could be the next great franchise center for the Spurs, given their strong draft history. But that's not all - we also tackle the topic of billionaire stunts, the dangers they pose, and the consequences that follow.

As we wrap up the episode, we touch on the tragic Ocean Gate submarine incident and question the propriety of treating the Titanic wreckage as a tourist attraction. We even ponder whether we'd rather go to the bottom of the ocean or to space. And don't miss our discussions on the CFL's BC Lions and Shohei Houtani's dual sports dominance in Major League Baseball. Join us for this riveting journey through the world of sports and beyond with Avry Lewis!

Speaker 1:

No instructions needed. I don't really feel like Shoot the poop Like your wiener. Let me just get that right in the old camera shot. That's my thought. I'm sipping on some red wine. Primary use for Bitcoin is to get more money.

Speaker 2:

Oh, man The Cougar, yeah, i'm into that. Hello, this fucking ball hardly like. I cannot start this at ease, i cannot risk it. Look how I go to the bathroom and I can hit the tent.

Speaker 1:

It's exactly how they're walk running or whatever it is, oh god.

Speaker 2:

What it do, baby.

Speaker 1:

Well, welcome to another episode of the No Instructions Needed podcast. This is your boy, dapsey Papsi Waxy. I'm here with the Big D and our special guest all the way from Emmetton, mr Hagerie Lewis and Mick Google. I hope I pronounced that right. I think I maybe put you in the last name. I'm good, good.

Speaker 3:

Well, hey, the name correct. Most people butcher my name and think it's Avery or something else. It's like no, it's still Avery. There's just no me in my first name. But no, bang on Love that champs.

Speaker 1:

That's how good I fucking am at this.

Speaker 1:

The Mick Google people would be like oh my god, how do you do that? I've seen that last game a thousand times in the trade So I knew I was very, very confident with that. So there you go. Today we are brought to you by. Let's go with Hart Wholesale Liquor for all your liquor needs. Make sure you guys get Hart Wholesale Liquor on the John Hart Highway right across from Carlos Jr and right next to North Country Cannabis for anything you need for liquor A massive, massive liquor store, massive beer and cold wine cooler. It is awesome. It's one of the best liquor stores in town. So make sure you guys visit there. So you know I generally when we do these things there, avery, we don't really have anything to talk about. But I think we just need to introduce you first to kind of the NIN Nation I guess is the best way to put it. So so where can people find you? Like what are you? You're just strictly in the MN to media, or what are you all about there, sir?

Speaker 3:

Okay, So I'll say easiest place to find me is on Twitter, at AVRY. You'll find all of my work there. So give the cold notes for those who don't know who I am I'm a sports podcast here. Writer, host. I'm Mr Vain. You know I'm everything that you need as a sports personality. I've covered. I cover hockey, basketball, right for the hockey news. Yahoo Sports. We do a show called Zone Time on there. I do my own stuff, Avery Sports Show. Really, I'm like jack of all trades. I've literally done everything from hockey, basketball, soccer, even rodeo. I've even covered rodeo.

Speaker 1:

Nice Rodeo is underrated. Man, i grew up on the farm So I've jumped on the back of bulls, i have wrestled like you name it sheep. Whatever I have done the whole rodeo thing in my life. I am a country boy of heart. I know I look like just your average dumb big white dude, but I am not. I grew up I guess I am the average dumb, big white guy.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, Yeah. When he said rodeo, I'm like now you're talking. chaps is language.

Speaker 1:

So you're covering mostly the Edmonton base teams, I'd imagine out there in Edmonton. Let's just quickly, if you don't mind, let's just break down how the Oilers are the most overrated franchise in the history of the NHL. No, I'm just joking, But in all seriousness, this has been a colossal failure with McDavid so far. What do they have to do this off season to get them to the next level?

Speaker 3:

Well, i'll say, first of all, the fact that we're in year nine of the dry cell you're doing David and the fact that they have not made one cup finally, yet It's usable. They should have made at least, at least two. They should have played at least two and they made to one Western Conference final. Now I get being a gymnast. I know being a GM is not easy. It's a challenge, but other teams have been able to build a team, build a structure and surpass you. Look at the cup champs, the cup champs of the Vegas Golden Knights, who didn't exist. Mcdavid first entered the league and they have been the two cup finals and they won one.

Speaker 3:

That's not the endowment of this franchise for many years. I don't know what else it is, but I think this team is going to have to go out and, i think, get some more help up front. We've heard Charles Kinekmi's name is possibly going to be in the mix for a trade, for what exactly Nuttrait in terms of what Ken Holland wants to give up. I know in the back end this team has to improve on the blue line. I know we saw the struggles of Cody CC and Darnell Ners as a pair. Don't be wrong, i like Cody CC as a person, wonderful guy But I just don't know how there's going to be a place for him as a player on this roster because as a D-man there was a lot of cringe moments where he was being blown by forwards, often this past season, guys.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, 100%. I don't know how much the big D knows about the Oilers situation. I'm not going to lie. No, oilers rule. No, they don't stop it. I know, but no, i've been a big proponent of, i don't. Oh man, i'm going to offend all your guys, all the people that listen to you. They're going to hate me instantly when they download this.

Speaker 1:

I think that McDavid is severely overrated. I don't think his defensive game is up to par with where a superstar of his level should be, and I think that that's fine, because he drops 160 points a year. But when you drop in 160 points a year, you want that plus minus to be a little higher. I think it was a plus one in the playoffs, which is kind of like unacceptable for how many points he had, but you can fix that with going in the stud defenseman. You got to go up there. You got to give something to get something, though. So they got to go get a stud And, in my opinion, i think they need a goalie.

Speaker 1:

I mean, like this is goalie too. This has been how many years Like like they've had how many years Every was it. Is it McDavid and Drysall? Like eight, nine, something like that? Yeah, it is Go get one, just go get one. Give up what you have to give to get a stud. I mean, like that, that's to me, that's what's going to fix the Oilers. But I don't know. I mean, i'm a Knock fan, so what? what can I really say? Uh, i, you know, i can't. I can't sit there and say I know how to build the team because of my franchise is obviously yeah, uh, yeah, they're. They suck right now.

Speaker 2:

But they're, they're.

Speaker 3:

they're not Edmonton's cap space Like no, it's right now about 42 cents. Right now, like he got to trade somebody, like they are hurting in terms of cap space right now. So you would think you would think you're going to probably see a trade of possibly a CC, possibly Cali on Moto, someone who I like. I like smaller guys, i like smaller guys as a team, but I would not be shocked if he is moved. So I think one of those guys was probably going to be moved because right now they are badly up against the cap this year.

Speaker 1:

They need. they need to make a hockey trade. They need to trade a good asset for a good asset. coming back, try to match the money. That's essentially where they're at. They're at a point two where one they're one player away Like that's what. they're close, they're not that far away. It's interesting. Now I'm going to let you two break down the thrower afters here. Big deal, let's go to you first, let's go. I just love the guy. I'm not going to lie. I had no idea who that guy was, that the draft is. I honestly did. but I've seen the suit. I'm like this is the dude, but you can't suck If you're wearing a suit like that. you can't fucking suck. So so break down the draft for the old trauma Raptors.

Speaker 2:

Okay, so Grady Dick was the player I was hoping the Raptors would draft. I've known about him for about three years now. He played on the same high school team as Jalen Green and the little point guard who got drafted last year in the second round Prodigy Prep And he was he's been to like a Kansas recruit since he was like in grade nine, so like he's been pretty high on the on the kind of big boards there for top prospects, top going into college for a while. Now He kind of held his own in this college year. He's a shooter. The wraps need shooting. You know it's. It's one of those things.

Speaker 2:

They didn't really have a knockdown three point guy like you know, fred, he was okay. I guess Gary Trent was decent but he didn't play hell of a lot. So they needed a good Knocked down three-point shooter. They got him. So dick. Well, i think it was supposed to like almost mock board. It's supposed to be going like 1011. He dropped the 13 for the wraps. I'm digging it, i'm digging the suit and Yeah, just hopefully it'll be a knockdown shooter situation where he just jacks up threes all day. He is a. He's a bigger guy too. He could probably drop it on the floor. I think he'll be a hopefully a better version of Duncan Robinson and more consistent version of Duncan Robinson.

Speaker 1:

Was that, like the only other way to play rick? to think of was nothing wrong since you know I could think of several white players. But but it all serious. This way I see the guy. He's just the thing I get scared about and I'm scared for the first overall pick to. I'm not gonna try to pronounce his name, but that guy is when be.

Speaker 3:

Victor, we'll be ama.

Speaker 1:

Victor Wembley. Wembley, very, very talented, good player. But super skinny, and when I see these big, tall guys that are skinny like that, like like the the Toronto's traffic, like this guy in bead when he came out, you know they always. What's his name last year, chet Holmgren Is that, yes, they always get hurt. It's always the knees and the ankles and that worries me about, about both the first overall pick and the Raptors pick. What do you think about that, mr? Mr McDougal?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, i know why that's the one big thing. And then that goes back to a lot, a lot of years, going back to back to 90s. He saw Sean Bradley getting hurt quite a bit with his feet and ankles. But yeah, no, the bigger guys, guys were seven four and up. They always have some level issue with with their feet, their ankles and they're always super so much. You almost never see a guy that size really buffed. They're always pencil thin.

Speaker 3:

But I think I think which was gonna fill out a bit in San Antonio I'm gonna find a way to get him some size. But one thing that he had is he's so dynamic because you see him we saw playing in Francis here and he's able to drop a Floater from three-point range. He can smell the dribble, he can play the garden as you can play the forward and guys that size like he's seven four But he's not a judicial center, which is scary to think of a guy who's seven four. It'd be a ball handler with guard skills, but I want to see what pop it's gonna do with him, because you don't just put him in the post. I mean, you can, yes, but he's what you can do, so much more than be to the post guy at seven foot four. We can do so much more for that for San Antonio.

Speaker 1:

Is it? could he be like Joker? I guess like. Is that like a good comparable for for wendy or what?

Speaker 2:

he's a way better athlete, mm-hmm Okay.

Speaker 1:

That's fine, but everyone said Joker isn't a good athlete. Now that guy does is dominate everybody all the fucking time. Doesn't matter how fast He is, he's just. He's like the incredible blob. I don't know if you guys ever seen that movie. It's like 1950s movie, but he just moves and everything gets absorbed into him and he just scores. No one can figure him out. So so what you're saying is he's more talented than him, but He might. We see he's gonna be better, because everyone's calling him the best prospect since LeBron James. That's a hefty, hefty thing to say. Is this guy the next, the next one?

Speaker 2:

If he can stay healthy, yes, i I'd say so that he has got a buff up, like Avery said, like even if you see chat Holmgren right now He's a lot bigger than he was last year, so he's got to make sure he adds the weight on.

Speaker 2:

You know, that kind of That momentum and that changes pace and changes speed and stopping on a dime like that kills the kind of guys. They got to make sure that he's ready to rock for that, that he has the muscle to kind of back up, and it is just like it's unnatural for someone to move like that, so injuries do happen. If he can stay healthy, yeah, i think he'll be the best player in the league, for sure. But in terms of Yolkich to Yolkich is is a better athlete than what people think, but his basketball IQ is like Stephen Hawking level, so like he's able to outsmart players and like make see the play before it happens. When B is just a freak athlete, who can he? like he's so fast at like seven foot four, he can like sprint down the court. Yolkich ain't doing that shit.

Speaker 3:

Nope.

Speaker 1:

Okay, yeah, he's maybe not doing that shit because he's carrying the ball up the court. Yolkich is like a once I love you, i love Joker, i think I do too He's. I think I don't think anyone's gonna knock him off, like I think the nuggets are. I Think they might win deal. Three of the next six championship. That's a little high. Two of the next five championships or something like that. Three of five, like I think they're. They're dynasty making and do you think you think when, when he's the next one? or do you think Avery, or is he gonna kind of just, you know, fill a need for San Antonio and that's all he?

Speaker 3:

Oh no, i definitely think he's the next one. He could say healthy, he's gonna lead San Antonio back to prominence. I know people in basketball were we're screaming because that the San Antonio Spurs have three. In the history of now, i had drafted three franchise changing centers David Robinson, tim Duncan and now Victor. The same franchise like that is amazing luck And the wraps have.

Speaker 2:

Andrea Bargnani as their first overall pick.

Speaker 1:

Okay, you know what He would be dominant in this NBA in this NBA. He would be like franchise good, but yeah, he's selling past and shit like he. He's not he was. Primo. This is primo, pasta and sauce. That's great. I we're gonna switch it up here a bit. Enough with the sports. We got to talk about the thing that took over the world for the week, for the since Sunday. I Don't know what it is about these billionaires that just want to do stupid shit and listen.

Speaker 1:

Listen. I send my condolences to the family. That is awful. What these people well, they didn't feel it, but like awful stuff, completely terrible. But Like all these people there that they can't be this stupid. Like you see this machine being built, it's not built properly and you're still gonna jump into it to go down to see the Titanic, like the guy had videos out.

Speaker 1:

If anyone doesn't know I'm talking about, i'm talking about Ocean Gate, a submarine Just caved in on itself at like 1300 feet or something like that, before it even got to the bottom of the ocean. Terrible, terrible thing. You know, a 19 year old kid did die, 48 year old, 7 year old and a couple other people. But yeah, it's terrible. But you know, at the same time, these guys, i just don't understand what. I Just don't understand the thinking. When you're that smart, you're that rich, you have, you have money to spend 250k to buy a ticket, you don't have another 50 grand and send someone to check out the submarine before you get in it. I just I do not understand this situation at all. Have you guys been following us?

Speaker 3:

I. It's a good point. I don't understand why you want to go down ski Titanic wreckage like there's there's not videos of footage out there and Also, too, the long things, the water. We don't know like 20% of the ocean has been discovered. There's 80% out there. We don't know what's in there. We don't know what's in those waters. I'm good, i don't want to go down there, but you spend all our money to build this thing Controlled by a ps1 control, a bootleg ps1 controller. Like what are you doing? Why? Yeah, i don't know too, too much.

Speaker 2:

I don't know the the nuts and bolts of the situation. It just kind of seems rich people being rich and, you know, wanting to Experience life to the fullest, quote-unquote, and I going terribly awry. So yeah, it condolences the families and stuff like that. But you know, just take a look at a video, google it, and then you'll be good. Yeah, stupid stupidity at its finest. I'm just gonna say it.

Speaker 1:

I'm sorry, i don't want to get into the video, i'm just gonna say it. I'm sorry, i don't want to get anyone else trouble. I'll take the heat for it. Just stupidity.

Speaker 1:

I mean like that's fine, that's perfectly fine, i'll take it. I just don't understand the need to go all the way. That's another thing too. It's like a grave right like this isn't. This isn't just like thousands of people died on the Titanic. This is their resting place. I'm not too sure that it should be like a tourist attraction by any means either. So I'm not like a big believer in just because we have the technology. I'm for scientists going down there and stuff, because I'm sure there's stuff. I'm sure there's things that they can learn from scraping on the sides of the Titanic and all that sort of fun stuff. But I just I've never understood the thinking. I don't understand the thinking. I don't understand putting your trust in a guy that literally said well, we don't follow all the rules here. It's like motherfucker. If there's one thing I want you to follow the rules about, it's about me going 3,000 goddamn meters into the fucking ocean.

Speaker 1:

That's all. I need you to follow the rules of engineering, please, sir. I need it.

Speaker 2:

I need the summary to be up to code.

Speaker 1:

Yes, that's all I'm asking for. Very simple, pretty simple. I just don't get it. It's funny because everyone kills Elon Musk, and for many reasons people kill Elon Musk 100%, but when he's doing his jet testing and shit like that to send people to space, when he's doing it, he's doing it without people in there and they blow up every now and then and stuff, but he's not putting anyone at risk at the same time until they're ready to go. But would you rather go to the bottom of the ocean or would you rather go to space? That's a pretty good question. Space, eh.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, i'd rather go to space Plus. You get that fucking that jolt when you're going up. There's only one way to experience that and that's going to space. You're in a pressurized environment in the submarine. You're sinking, you're doing your thing. It's probably pretty cool to see, but I think space would be way more awesome, if I'm being honest, if I may be honest.

Speaker 3:

I guess space, but I'm not trusting Elon Musk to send me to space. Hell, no, i'm not trusting that idiot. I do not like Elon Musk. I do not like this man for many reasons, and he's going to be the leader in taking people to space Like dude. Your car is going to be dumbies. Your car is going to be mannequins in testing. I'm going to trust you to send me to space 100%.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, i agree. Who's doing Bayes nose, though? Is Bayes nose putting those together, then?

Speaker 2:

Is it Bayes nose company?

Speaker 1:

OK. So I don't know. I see I'm with you guys. I think I'd rather go to space, but that's because I'm really claustrophobic. Like I'm extremely claustrophobic, i sometimes can't even get in elevators, like it just bothers me. I don't know why, it's just one of my weird quirks, i don't know how well I do and edit either of these two things. As soon as the door gets shut in the space machine, i'm like all right, man, this is not a good situation. This is not good. We need to get out of here. But at least you know you can get out of the spaceship once you're in space.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

You can kind of.

Speaker 2:

Theoretically, you can leave the ship in space and just float around and shit.

Speaker 3:

But yeah, just we got that Grail workout for his.

Speaker 1:

Please, please, i just I just I like you get out there, like, even when you're out there, do you like turn around like it's just pitch fucking black out there, man, there's nothing. I think that would. I don't know if that would fuck with me more or not, but going down into the ocean with especially if it's a big, big submarine, i think that's a little bit different. But in those little tiny ones that they have to take to the bob in the ocean, that are like one seaters and two seaters and stuff, i don't think you're getting chops down there, i don't. It's just like there too. That's what I'm saying, man. I don't think you're getting me down there, because the Megalodon is going to come, it's going to eat the capsule and I'll be the first recorded death by Megalodon. I guarantee it. Like.

Speaker 2:

I'll be. Jason Statham will save you.

Speaker 1:

Jason Statham can save anybody at any fucking time. Let's not, let's not joke about that. He is. He is the hero of heroes. Are you going to watch the new Meg movie when it comes up?

Speaker 2:

Probably.

Speaker 1:

Avery, do you know what that is?

Speaker 3:

I've heard it before and it's ridiculous. either way, it's like Fast and Furious. It's all those movies jumped the shark literally like 10 years ago.

Speaker 1:

Oh, big D is going to get so mad at you.

Speaker 2:

I haven't seen the new Fast one yet. Guarantee one thing I will.

Speaker 3:

For family.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, familia, biasix or Coronas and have myself a night.

Speaker 1:

This is a chrony does sit there in the like Toronto. No, no, no, no, no.

Speaker 2:

I'll probably wait. I'll probably wait. I still have to see some other films first. It's not top of the list. You know, I haven't seen the flash yet.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, i mean neither I got kids, though I can't. I mean there's no way I'm getting to a movie theater any anytime soon. I mean like I got way too much. I got put together trampoline tomorrow, that's tomorrow's big activity for me. These things are hard to put together. Are you a dad?

Speaker 3:

I'm not. No, I'm a bachelor or no kids.

Speaker 1:

Well, just there, you go with you to perfect. So you guys have no idea what I'm talking about. But when you, when you have kids, it's amazing. It is amazing experience. It's lots of fun Watch them grow up and all that shit. But man, you got to put a lot of stuff together. It's just the worst of the worst. Like this trampoline is going to be a eight hour experience tomorrow And it's probably going to be put together like that guy put together the sub. That's probably the best?

Speaker 2:

Does it have the nets on it? Is that the one? Yeah, there's nets. Can it hold a 210 pound man?

Speaker 1:

If you're asking if you can jump on the trampoline when you come up to the house, yes, we'll make sure that it can hold you when you come up to the house. I need to practice my flips. You need to put it next to the pool so we can jump in the pool. Oh yeah, that's a sick idea. Well, the pool is like 56 inches deep, so you got to be a little bit careful. Like it's not too deep, but you can still do it. We can still work with this.

Speaker 2:

Four feet and change And you just can't pencil in. You just have to spread out a little bit.

Speaker 1:

Spread eagle. Oh man, yeah, just spread it. Speaking of spreading eagle, so I started the cold plunge fad here. Have you done that? Have you, either you two, done this yet? No, i've not. I got a lot of friends to do that.

Speaker 3:

I hate cold water So I think I would tap on like five seconds doing that. How's that going for your chefs?

Speaker 1:

So obviously, if you've just seen Dean, he is a specimen. Like he is jacked in perfect shape.

Speaker 1:

I'm a lot fatter than the Big D, but I definitely. You know I started doing, i started working out, so I want to do the cold plunges. Started doing it this week And the number one thing I can say is just don't look at your package during this thing, because there's not much left there. When you're in that cold plunge, you should do it in boxers. It's a very concerning thing. The water is absolutely freezing And you're just sitting there and you're trying to count your head. Ok, it's been 20 seconds.

Speaker 1:

And look at your watch, It's been like four seconds Oh my god. It's like planking.

Speaker 1:

What's that? Is it like planking? Yeah, it's exactly like planking. Exactly, exactly the same thing, except you get like you are so cold and it takes forever. You feel like you're a jack just waiting for Rose to get off the fucking door on the type It is freezing. And then you get out and it is. It's like liberating. But I'm telling you you can't, you can't look down There, else you'll be terrified. But it is, it is completely liberate. You get out, you're like, yeah, fuck, yeah, i did that. And then you go try to have a shower and you have to do a cold shower because everything feels so hot as soon as you're out. And yeah, it's. I think. I think you should do it, the I think.

Speaker 2:

OK, let me see. Let me see if I understand correctly This cold plunge. You say, like, what do you do? Do you just fill your bath tub up with like a bunch of ice cubes and shit, or like it.

Speaker 1:

No, no, no, I don't do that yet. The ice cubes is like that's going to be a lot of money. I'm a cheap guy, i'm not doing that, but I we just filled up with just cold water, just turn the cold tap on and it's like 56 degrees, like it doesn't. That's OK. So it's supposed to be from from like you can go from 37 to 50 to 60, it says, and I just do it at 56.

Speaker 3:

OK, it's no cubes.

Speaker 1:

I could, i might put cubes in it, just because you're pissing me off now. So I might.

Speaker 2:

Like a glass full and just pour it in tonight.

Speaker 1:

No, i don't. you'll do it every night. You got to do it like 11 minutes a week And you know I want to. you set the goal for me. I only wanted to go to 230 and now you're telling me I got to go to 225. Every I started at 260. I'm down to 238 now And he's telling me I got to go to 225 and I just, oh man, that's a lot of. the first 20 is the easiest, bro.

Speaker 2:

Now you got to go, now you got to get after it. Yeah, but I got that Melt off the first 20 would be the easiest, though.

Speaker 1:

That's why I got that fat.

Speaker 2:

You're going to plateau real quick and you're going to have to go even harder.

Speaker 1:

No, I am not going any harder than I'm going right now. Not a chance. I just want to get jack like you. That's all I want. But I don't want. I also don't want to put in the work. Is there a pill? Can we take a pill for this Alpha?

Speaker 2:

brown. I have a needle you can use.

Speaker 1:

I think you still have to work if you do the needle.

Speaker 2:

A little bit, yeah Well, no, not a lot, but coming from experience.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, i've never learned to learn to be your partner.

Speaker 2:

Never done it before, so actually don't have the needle, but Oh Man, i can hook you up, i can hook you up.

Speaker 1:

I'm not doing a needle. I know people don't take steroids.

Speaker 2:

I know people do that I've already.

Speaker 1:

I've already, i've slimmed it. I've actually slimmed down quite a bit and people are starting to notice that's, that's the part of the feels good. I'm like, all right, my wife, my wife, yeah, for one, you know, i go in the store. Some of the ladies like taking second glance and man, all right, let's do this now. I got a little bling now and stuff too. So like maybe that's, that's part of it. I'm not, i'm not too sure, but But who knows, again, let's just quickly go back sports. Let's do a quick CFL check. So I know your big CFL guy too, avery. So so what's? I'm not gonna lie, i pay zero percent attention to the CFL. I'm all NFL. That is my, my kingdom. I have noticed the lines have gone off to a good start, even though they lost Nathan or Rark. But the guy that they they have now it looks like he's actually maybe better than Nathan or Rark. So that'll be pretty interesting. So break down the CFL here in the in a couple minutes for us.

Speaker 3:

Okay, so, yeah, so for the Audience yeah, the BC Lions are starting the year three and only that. Three strong games there right now. Best team in the CFL got what a page. He's number two to one and And and these two starting up for now Toronto's one and no, ottawa's only two. But BC was a team and people thought we're gonna fall off due to fact that Nathan Rourke is now a Jacksonville Jaguar. Good for him. I'll never knock a guy for getting NFL money. You know he's gonna be probably a backup. You know, hey, yeah, that's. He's making 45 million, probably pretty soon. So good for Nathan. But no, we're an Adam's of the lead in the way for BC so far. And then I'll. I'll jump to The M's and L's to team I wash line cover. They unfortunately started the year at 0 and 2 and they have unfortunately lost 19 games in a row at home, which even worse guys, is the pro football record and 19 games in a row at home lost.

Speaker 3:

That is the pro football record between both Most losses at home in a row between both leagues Jesus did the Edmonton Alex have LL cool, j do the pregame show or Yeah, I did.

Speaker 1:

That was dope.

Speaker 3:

That was good. I Know what. Hey people, yeah, that's for me. That's the thing in which you know the CFL wants you more attention and the Lions, they've worked hard to get more attention. The younger fans more fans, early getting a name Who's still relevant, like LL cool J, to do your pregame show. That's sick, that's dope. I saw some people are saying, oh, why this guy here performing? I want my football like 1550 anymore is the 50s the entertainment like take, go back to the time machine, go home Fucking cool J man.

Speaker 1:

The greatest shark movie ever made the Deep blue sea man Bird. This guy is awesome. If if I see the people complaining about LL cool J performing at a CFL BC Lions game, i will personally punch them in the face. Thing I've ever heard. It's LL cool, he's, he's must one Grammys, i would imagine.

Speaker 2:

He's done it all. Mad CSI any Some bangers Swat, great movie underrated. I knew you're gonna, i don't, i'm not. I've been kind of loosely following the Lions this year so far. I remember Vern Adams Jr When he played at Oregon. He's a good quarterback man. They picked him up when Roark got hurt last year and they needed a good job. They're receiving course strong. I think their defense has been good. The Kicker I partied with the kicker once last year. He's a good guy, so he's he's. He's from my hometown. But yeah, it's 3 and 0. I don't, everyone is great cup in a hot minute. So you know everyone gets their turn in the CFL BC town baby.

Speaker 1:

When was last time BC one? it was like 2013 or something like that.

Speaker 2:

I feel like 2011 or something.

Speaker 1:

Oh right, It was. It was in Vancouver, right.

Speaker 3:

Yes, sir.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, that's right. So Emond's gonna suck like they're gonna be terrible, they're gonna miss the playoffs.

Speaker 3:

They're not. They're not supposed to be a producer. They should most be a better team. I have them winning at least seven games because, again, in the CSL light I know, i know the CFL joke is haha, everybody makes it, everybody can get into the playoffs. But it's true like a seven win season seven, eight wins that usually guaranteed to at least cross and over to play and As a crossword team, right now they're struggling. It's not a good look. They got to find a way to score because they they have. They have not scored more 13 points yet this year.

Speaker 1:

I think everyone that thinks the NFL, the CFL, sucks, should go listen to what Chad Johnson said about the CFL, where he said listen, like all these guys are just a fraction of a second Away from making the NFL. Like they're, these guys up here, they're amazing athletes. Like you can't. You can't ever Say that, oh, they're not very good. That's when they're CFL. If you're in the XFL, if you're in the NFL, if you're in the CFL Maybe not the other leagues, but those three specifically you're. You're a good athlete man. Like you're you're. You're just a little bit below. You'd be in the minor leagues in the NHL or the minor leagues in the MLB or in the G league in the NBA. It's just there, isn't that that league for the NFL? and I Yeah, i joke, i don't watch the CFL as often. I will say I have paid attention to him a lot on Twitter this year because I love Gabriel Marenzi. I don't know if you guys know who that is, but I.

Speaker 1:

Don't need to follow the kid. I know those 14 years old. There you go. That guy is awesome. He is a I would. He's just a firecracker. He's hilarious. But But yeah, i think people need to be easier and I do think, as As Canadians, we need to try to make sure we watch the CFL, because it can go away Very quick. It's not, it's not, it's not a year to year thing with the CFL, but it's probably like every three years They got a check to make sure it's still a viable league and I honestly think we need to. We need to pay a little bit more Attention. So maybe we should give the CFL a little bit more of a go on this show, big D, i think you know. Maybe we should hit up by every go to Alps game here and where our BC Lions here, and see how much trouble.

Speaker 2:

I Have to get some BC Lions gear first.

Speaker 1:

I shot the Dickerson jersey.

Speaker 2:

Oh man, I'll go.

Speaker 1:

Casey printers Oh man, you, I was gonna go Travis Luley and I was like oh yeah, he ruled to one go a little bit older than that. And then I forgot about Casey Casey. Casey almost made the NFL. He was pretty close like he didn't hot minute there and he just couldn't. He just couldn't remember how to throw NFL football. That was a big problem. You gotta be able to throw the NFL football once you get there, and I, him and Travis Luley seem to have forgot that once they hit the NFL.

Speaker 2:

Our board Dickinson was third string on, i think, the Chargers. I.

Speaker 1:

Think Casey printers got into a game, didn't he? Maybe? maybe I'm wrong. I Mean we're going down the rabbit hole here. Other than Warren Moon, who's the best CFL player ever to make the NFL, and Doug Flamin- wake 100 you can't wake, you can't wait to call a favor in the NFL Stats, wise, he might be bound up. He played long enough.

Speaker 3:

I would say he's a dolt, he's a dolphin's, all-time great. But in terms of Canton, i don't know about Canton for a can wake. I'm not sure about that one.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, he's. He was like 30, i think, when he made the NFL, like he was older. Yeah, he played until he was like 36, 37. I believe, but yeah, he was. He was awesome. Now, i think the one year he played for BC just like sacked everyone, it was yeah, fair.

Speaker 1:

There was a stat he had more sacks than, like, the Winnipeg Jets hole roster had sacks or something stupid like that. Like he was a machine his last year in in the CFL. I love me some Cam Wake, he was and he was scary too. Like you, look at that guy. Like all this guy is gonna eat me. He looked like he looked like. He looked awesome. There was no doubt he was gonna be a good NFLer. No doubt, by the way, what the hell's America blue jays team.

Speaker 2:

Well, vlad, he had a free run shot today, so that's That is good. But yeah, it just seems like either the pitching zone or the or the bats are on, but never in Synergy. I think I've talked about this before too. I don't feel like it's I've got this, but Yeah, they just can't get all kind of Facets of the game running at once. It just, yeah, like the pitching's been pretty good, but like they haven't been hitting, and today the pitching was crap and they hit a bit better.

Speaker 2:

So just yeah, the offense has been underwhelming the last three weeks. For the most part. Burrios is better, gossman still owns, bassett's been struggling now, but Kukuchi's been doing okay, so yeah, just, they just need that synergy. The bullpen's been pretty decent, so it's. They just know that like synergy and have every kind of fast of the game going, but they just haven't been able to do like losing to Oakland. It's like, come on, man, they've won 19 games before this. They are by far the worst team in baseball. And they lost. And Romano gave up a home run too, and I love Romano.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, i don't know what the Blue Jays are supposed to do. I've been a big proponent and I hated their previous manager. I thought he was God awful. This manager hasn't been any better, but now that would be two managers in three years. You know something's got to change with the roster. You got to get rid of somebody. Yeah, as something has to happen. You can't add to this team unless you're adding.

Speaker 1:

You know what they don't have is they don't have an asshole, and what I mean by that is they don't have a Troy Tulaewitzky that will say shut the fuck up and hit the ball, quit being an idiot. They don't have Josh Dawson that will do the same thing. They don't have that intimidating veteran presence in their lineup that can help them. Like Kevin Keermar is not going to be that guy, no one is going to be that guy. George Springer isn't that guy. You know they really, they really need, they need somebody like that.

Speaker 1:

That's what changed that Blue Jays team. Jose Bautista was awesome, edwin Acronasiall was awesome, but then when Troy Tulaewitzky came, it was like okay, yeah, we're supposed to like take this seriously, we're not supposed to be dicking around, and he changed that team. He, yeah, he wasn't very good for the Blue Jays 100%. But he was that presence that everyone said hey, or he told everyone hey, shut up, do your job. We can still have fun doing it, you can still pimp your home runs and stuff, but make sure you're showing up at five AM to take batting practice. You know you're working out at six AM. That's what they need And they definitely do not have that on this roster.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

I think that's a good point. This team doesn't really have those kind of guys. I mean, like 2015, 2015,. You had those guys who were a bit of that manner, who were that guy, who were those guys who would kick your butt and say, you know, this is what you gotta do. But one thing I find I do find silly is the idea that the home run jacket can be a part of this. Like come on. And at the end of the day, yeah, you gotta win it. Those two, this is entertainment, this is fun. We're not solving world hunger, we're not trying to figure out how to go down to the depth of the ocean in a paper boat. Like this is sport, this is entertainment. And we're getting mad over a home run jacket or we're saying no, no more home run jacket. Like come on that's just stupid.

Speaker 1:

Like, yeah, i love when people pimp their home runs. I love when people wear home run jackets, home run belts, whatever samurai sword or whatever the hell it is in Seattle. I love that stuff. All I care about is showing up and doing the extra work, especially in the MLB where you have to study pitchers and all of that sort of fun stuff. You can do whatever you want on the field. Honestly, if I was hit the home run, i would throw my bat every single time. I would pin it every time. Nothing you could ever do about that to me. I don't care if I got hit in the head 40 times with fast balls. I would pin it every single time, as long as you're showing up in the morning and doing the extra work.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, fair enough, man, they just need to bring it together. It's getting to the point where it's like, okay, this might be too late and there must be like it might be too big of a health decline because the other teams in the AL East are good Houston's good, anaheim's good, there's a lot of good teams and if they fall too far behind, this next nine game stretch is key, because every team's below 500. They got to win seven out of the nine and they've already lost one.

Speaker 1:

So this is gonna bring up a conversation. This is actually we've been trying to get every on the show for a while now, and this This is the kind of the reason why he's coming on this week is He is dead wrong in his show. A a Tani take that he had on Twitter dead wrong. So what? the what the take was was Has there been in any sport Another? no, what was it has show? who is Shohei Houtani in every other sport in history? and I believe, avery, you said no one's done it since World War two.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, like we don't have a player who is dominant and we've got players who play mobile position before in Baseball football, but I haven't been since. I'll go in FM, i'm a beat. It hasn't happened since World War two where someone was dominant and leading the league in those stats in two positions. Haven't happened since it's talking about football or baseball. I.

Speaker 1:

Will argue this because Dion Sanders played both sides of the ball dominated.

Speaker 3:

Dominating the defense on often side or receive. It wasn't top five in any receiving stats.

Speaker 1:

I agree with that. But he was number one all time in freaking punt returns and kick returns for a while. So there's like in the NFL you play three. There's three different ways you can play, so it's a little work around, i guess. Yeah, like he was, he was the best punt returner in the NFL and kick returner and he was. I think yeah, he was the best cornerback for probably both three-year stint in in the NFL as well. So that would be my argument is, i think Dion Sanders is up there, but realistically, either are not very many guys that have have kind of swung To both sides of the of the ball in, either sport like what show is doing right now.

Speaker 3:

They'd be like patch my homes in the same game, throwing for three touchdowns and having five sacks in the same game.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yes, very true, i can't think of anything. The only like multi-positional guy I can think of and that's it's not even like offense, defense and football is taste some hill like that's. That's only multi-position guy I can think of, that like I actively plays a bunch of different positions, but not like offense, like no Quarterback receiver tight end might run it right, so he does like a Swiss army knife like that, but still it's.

Speaker 2:

It's not even close. Shohei is a unicorn freak and Most people will know We'll never see this again in their lifetime. There might be another guy that can do both. I think there are a couple guys coming up that can do both, but usually it like The teams will make you just do one because they don't want you to overextend yourself and hurt you. But he's just too damn good at both for them to do that. And plus his body's held up pretty good. So Like he had the elbow problem But he got that fixed and was stable, still able to hit right. So he didn't pitch it He as much or at all, i think for a little bit, but he's still able to knock dingers. So you know, even if he gets a little bit hurt and can't throw, he can still mash and that's fine.

Speaker 1:

Mm-hmm, i Agree I you know what, but I still think Dion Sanders should be held in this conversation. I really do. Did he lose his foot today? by the way, i know he was going? He had like an emergency blood clot surgery today in his grow.

Speaker 1:

Oh and I haven't seen an update about that yet. So that has me, you know, a little worried. That prime is. Look, prime, yes, yeah, man, he's in rough shape, like I don't know. He broke his foot or something like that like a year ago and then they had to amputate a toe, i'm pretty sure, and stuff, and now it like it sounds like, if you're reading tea leaves here Probably gonna lose his leg, like something's going on with with his. His blood just keeps clotting in that one specific leg. So, yeah, it's. It's a Interesting time. So, before we get out here, because it's almost coming up on the 45 minute new time limit that we have, hard stop.

Speaker 1:

The big D is a bachelor, so you want to get back out there. Um.

Speaker 3:

So I see why.

Speaker 1:

For me. I'm gonna go home, make a bowl popcorn, take this I've already taken one this 20 milligram edible and pass out. But What are we watching this weekend? and anything, are you? are you big D? I'll start with you. Are you? is there anything you go see, because I know what I'm watching. I.

Speaker 2:

Don't think there's anything for me to watch this weekend. If I'm being honest, i'm hitting the links on Sunday. That'll be good, and I don't know if I'm gonna watch anything. Yeah, all right, hey what are? you watching.

Speaker 3:

What the watches weekend. Oh gosh, i, that's a. That's a good question. Like I, i know I might Bear, i say it. I can't believe I'm gonna say something about what I cut. I cheese. What's the boy movie drop, what's that? Where's that? You know what this weekend?

Speaker 1:

Barbie movie that's no, barbie isn't till the 16th of July, i believe that just seems so absurd.

Speaker 3:

I may have to see it. It seems so ridiculous, like, all right, i'll.

Speaker 1:

Robbie in any movie. I will go watch and And same with Ryan Gosling and half the cast of that movie. I cannot wait for that movie. That movie is gonna be awesome. It is gonna be awesome and Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling together in a movie. I I'll go to the Thursday show. I'll just say I will go to the Thursday First show. It's gonna be fucking awesome. I, i can't wait. I'm watching the extraction to extraction to rules.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, i haven't seen it yet. I'm gonna watch it this weekend and, you know, finish off. Or maybe I'll finish off, but you know, let's. Let's get the second one in the franchise, because the first one was was pretty dope. So, mr, mr, thank you very much for joining this man. This was lots and lots of fun. Where can the people find you again?

Speaker 3:

Hey, i find me on. Find me on Twitter at AVR Y funny, go on, i'll see you when you go on Instagram. I'm on Instagram. A VRO I sports. My latest pictures of me working with the CFL doing social work, shown off my Muscles. That was a great shabby Instagram.

Speaker 1:

Awesome stuff, man. Well, you've been wonderful to have our doors always open. We're sorry the big O couldn't make it out this time, But he was jacked up to me. Yes, we'll have to have you again on again once that, once he's available, big D, any closing thoughts?

Speaker 2:

Nope, not today. Have a great weekend, everyone Love you. Thanks for listening. Bye.

Speaker 1:

Okay, so now I got to play the music on the outro here, because I forgot to do that while I was starting the This whole outro part of it. So we can just you know. Is there anything, avery, that you want to say to anyone?

Speaker 3:

You want to talk to me for 30 seconds. Every one of you. I will just say, hey Here, fresh your hair and this summer, make sure you put on some lotion. Stay fresh, stay clean in these streets, that's perfect.
